first doc visit

Oscar had his first doc appointment.  She said he's perfect.  We agree.

Here are the stats:
Height: 21.25" (96%)
Weight: 7 lb. 8.6 oz (47%)
Head: 13.5" (35%)

He is one TALL baby!  With a little head.  Thank goodness for me...  Quite the opposite of his big brother.

You might have noticed that he shurnk a little.  While the measurements are not perfectly accurate, the PA offered to measure him again.  The doc heard her mention that and she popped her head in to say that newborns often "shrink" a few days after birth.  She explained that babies get their cone heads when they go through delivery, but then after a few days, that goes away and the head reshapes and often that means the babies lose a little bit of length.  Oscar has plenty of height, so a quarter inch is no biggie.

I didn't realize you did a VBAC, Claudia - that's great! The birth went well? He looks adorable and chubby-cheeked :)

For the tummy trouble, does it help if you hold him upright after meals? If yes, then again I would recommend baby carriers to hold him close while leaving hands free. I don't know what we would have done without them during the first few months.

We did have a successful VBAC. Much to the surprise of many of the caregivers in the hospital, I think. We don't have any major complications, so I suppose the delivery went well, although they couldn't keep the epidural up with the speed of my body delivering, so it could have gone better. :-)

We do pretty much every trick in the book for tummy troubles, or so it feels. Upright, lots of jostling and burping and position changes, mylecon, stomach massage, etc. I'm cutting out beans and dairy and we'll see if that helps. Last night was better, so we're optimistic!
